GET READY: FTHs to Increase Recruitment of Health Works

The Federal Government has ordered Chief Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals (FTHs) to double their intake of personnel to address burnout and shortage of human resources for health. 

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ms. Daju Kachollom mni, stated that the directive has already taken effect and is in addition to the planned training of frontline health workers and other government measures to tackle the issue of shortage of manpower in FTHs.

 The Ministry is also working on expansion and upgrade activities in various hospitals across the country, including strategic collaborations to increase interventions. 

The government will begin payment of the 2024 MRTF in the coming days. However, the Permanent Secretary lamented the incessant attacks on health workers, citing the recent occurrence at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja. 

The Ministry has set in motion plans to engage with security agencies to find preventive measures against these attacks and is beefing up security in hospitals through perimeter fencing and CCTV installation.
